The Whelan Family

My moms side of the family has some missing pieces to it's history so I could only work with this. I interviewed my grandma.

My Dads side on the other hand, has a lot more of an interesting history: click here I interview my grandpa.

I interviewed both history nuts on each side of the family, so my information is accurate.

My short but honestly very pervasive e-mail is here.
My family tree doesn't want to be embedded into this to save my life at the moment so you will have to settle for a link: Here

I have made a five frame story board. Click here to view.

As you may or may not notice that King Richard appears several times during my presentation. Yes I do know all the stuff that King Richard never had a child. This however in incorrect, he had a singular daughter that married into an Irish clan in exchange of support for the crusades. It is an old family tale, and we take great pride in it. When it comes down to history however, who don't exactly have any pruff

Where are you right now on your "Who Do You Think You Are" project? What did you do over the break for the project? Did you interview anyone? Use the checklist below to figure out what you have finished, what you are still working on and what you still have to do.

For the most part, I am heavy in an closing in on completion. None of my grandparents came over for thanksgiving, so I wasn't able to get interviewing done. I'm going to finish my prexi (for the most part)  today.

Stop Motion Animation Top Three

1. Abigail Krump
   Climbing Around the World
It takes a lot of skill and upper arm strength. Also was the longest.
2. Maila
   M&M figures.
It takes along time to move each M&M like that, and making sure all the others stay in the same place.
3. Dana Oudegian
    Sticky Note Art
This not only takes time but amassing hand eye coordination to get everything right.

How did you stop motion animation turn out? If you could give it a grade, what would you give it out of 60 points? What did you learn from creating this video?

It turned out not as well as I originally hoped probably grade wise a 50 out of 60, so not to bad. If there is anything I have learned from this little project, is that stop animation requires a lot of time, and is very boring. I have new found respect for whoever makes full length stop animation movies for a living.

11/11/13

How far along are you on your stop motion animation? What did you do over the weekend to work on you stop motion animation? Do you have all your pictures today? Will you have all your pictures by the end of the hour? Give me a detailed updated.

I had to scrap my original idea, but fortunately, I always have a backup plan. I took some 160 some pictures, and I really don't have an exact count, but I finished over the weekend, after three hours of work. I still had one of my lego drop ships still intact, including all the missiles and bombs (all legos naturally) for it.

11/8/13

What are you planning on doing for your stop-motion animation video? What story are you going to tell? How will your video be fun and different? Who is taking your photos? When are you taking your photos?

I'm planing on doing something very simple for my video. Sense I know martial arts, I will do one over a martial arts form. It should be basic, but it requires a lot of photo's will little room for error, so only a simple form would suffice.

Journal - What story will your storyboard tell? Explain in detail.

It is story put into the form of an analogy. The sink that appears in the pictures represents the ocean, while the swimming ring represents the animals. It shows as humanity slowly drains the oceans for resources the animals of the oceans slowly die.

What photo editing tool(s) have you used so far on your 5 photos project? Do you like the tool? Is it easy to use? Hard to use? What's good about it? Whats bad about it? Give a detailed review of the tool.

Pixlr is so far the only one I have used, mostly because it is the simplest, and it allows for the manipulation of  color very easily. However you cannot superimpose other pictures onto the base photo, which is somewhat of a downside.

11/1/13

What are the pros and cons to photo editing? What are some examples of when photo editing is fun and appropriate? When can photo editing be inappropriate or too much?

Photo editing can be used to superimpose or otherwise add things to a picture. Most of the time they can and should be used for personal use only, and one should always show credits if you don't own the picture. Don't try to make it outrageous ether. It only requires simple work and make sure it makes sense. And please, keep things school appropriate.

What is your favorite web tool that we have used in class so far this year? Why is it your favorite web tool? What do you like about it? How can you use it again in the future?

Prezi is so far. It is highly complicated, but very simple to make. It's very fun and an easy make.

War and Conflict

10/21/1

My weekend was amazing. At BOA "Bands of America" performance we got 22nd place out of over 60 bands. the rest of my weekend was my lazy day, doing nothing but playing video games. Skyrim and my new pokemon game  Y version.

What makes a presentation memorable? What makes a presentation stand out and not boring? How are you going to make your presentation better than anyone else? How will you make it unique? Explain.

A presentation that is memorable most having a shocking fact or statistic that throws someone for a loop. It has to be uncommon and unique. It most have pictures, and maybe interactive with the people listening to the presentation.

10/15/2013

What did you learn from the Ted Talk yesterday? Did you find it interesting or accurate? Explain.

It was very interesting and also, very accurate. People are getting to wrapped up in their model devices, and it shows. Most phones use many other things than call and text. It's becoming ridicules about how much model devices are beginning  to have complete control over peoples lives. My phone only takes calls and texts, and it's only what, a few years old, and it works just fine. People are so wrapped up in the devices that they don't even when someone gets shoot right in front of their faces. They just carry on their way like nothing has ever happened.

What do you love about the "digital age" that we currently live in? What do you dislike about it? What are positives ways you use technology in your life? What are some things that come along with technology that you don't like? Explain.

The digital age, despite it's infinite use, is nothing more than a double edge sword. Everything on the internet, to normal word, to top secret documents, are all storied on the internet. Hackers, with the right training, could bring the whole system down. You can figure out how to pick locks, make bombs and many other bad things on the internet. Despite everything about it, you can' stop technology that effectively, and advancements are made all the time. Granted, for most of its history, the military has got the new stuff first, then it is converted to civilian use.

Tell me about your Homecoming weekend (whether you went to the activities or not!). Tell me about what you did over the weekend.

My Homecoming weekend was not spent at Homecoming. I had a marching band competition Saturday, and if we had stayed, may have won third place overall. The rest of the weekend was spent playing video games, such as fire emblem, skyrim, minecraft, and other games.

What do you know about infographics? What do you know about them? What are their purpose?

Infographics are graphs that have a visual component as part of the information that the graph presents.  I don't really know anything else, and that was only an educated guess.

What are you weekend plans?

Weekend plans are simple. Study, practice my instrument, and play video games, most notable, Minecraft, on a multi-sever with several friends. I hope I find an Ur-Ghast, or a Hydra in the Twilight Forest. All in all fun will be had, and I will also try to reclaim the most advanced person on the server.

Most students view siting work as 'a pain in the butt'. How do you feel about it? Is it necessary? When is it appropriate to cite work? What's the importance of it?

Siting work, despite it's importance, is a complete pain, and can be very time consuming. Most teachers like to have someone site all sources they have, not taking into account that they may have learned theses things long ago, or that they asked parents, peers or even other teachers. It should only be used for direct quotations from a source, or a near exact one.

What is your favorite book, magazine, or publication? Why?

I have several favorite book series, done by varies authors. The Maximum Ride book series is very good, but past the third book it takes a turn for the worst. Harry Potter is a good series, but many different things, including the terrible fanfiction that is written about the books as a whole. Favorite fanfiction of all time is Fighting for a Purpose V2 an amassing project that is a crossover of Halo and Star Wars.

Journal - Do you enjoy writing? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why is writing an essential skill in life? How will you use this skill in the future?

I get more of a kick out of reading things than actually writing, but I still enjoy writing. I mostly specialize in writing fanfiction, stories that are writing about characters who already exist. Despite this, I make an effort to make original characters and an original/semi-original story line. Spelling and grammar are two important skills that come out of writing, helping in day to day associations with other humans and it would also help with presentations at the workplace.

What is creating an outline for a paper important? Do you think it helps you personally? How would you prefer to outline a paper - pen and paper or an online tool? Is there a different way you know if that would prefer to organize your thoughts?

Having an outline is a very good idea. It allows you to be able to fix your mistakes a head of time, and not to have points taken off for stupid stuff, such as spelling. It is very good for me, mostly because of my bad grammar and spelling habits (I blame the school district on that one). I use word for writing in general, so it's not really writing, it's typing. I may just start keeping a journal next to my bed at night, sense I can fully reflect on stuff and get new ideas.

Tell me about your weekend. Where did you go? What did you do?

I stayed home during the weekend, lucky me. I had no band camp, eliminating anything I had to do, making it into a lazy weekend for me. I spent a good deal of time on a multiserver in minecraft with a friend. Well it was the Feed the Beast: Unleashed mod pack, but still it was quite fun. As of late I have the most advanced armor, furnaces, farms, and mining gear, while he has the advantage in machines, something I'm hoping to make up for soon, once I increase the size of my rubber tree farm. I didn't do much else besides sleeping, mostly because of a killer headache.

Journal - Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

People I look up to in my life would be for the most part, rare. I, for the most part, have a little something called trust issues. But if I would have to chose someone to look up to, it would be my mom. She is nice and caring, working at a childern's hospital. She is willing to stand up for what she believes in, and willing to fight for it to, if push comes to shove.

Journal - What is good email etiquette and why is it essential in the "real" world? How can having good email etiquette put you ahead?

Good E-mail etiquette could be considered good manners in a conversation with a regular person in real life, face to face. E-mail is becoming more of a common way to message people over vast distances, or to contact bosses. It will allow you to keep ahead of others, sense more and more businesses are  becoming more and more electronic oriented. Beginning able to keep contact with people in your life via e-mail makes it a major skill for the future.

Journal - If there was one big global issue in the world that you could fix, what would it be? A cure for cancer? Save the rain forest? Stop pollution? Think about it and then write about it. Why would you choose that specific issue?

If there is a major issue that I would fix in the entire world, I would chose the prevention of wars. Wars are one of the things that keeps the world divided as it is. In the world we live in, hate breeds hate, and we can't do much about it. How much safer would the world be without hate? It would be better off for everyone. We wouldn't have to spend billions of dollars a year on defense, because there would be nothing to defend against. How much money would governments have, if they didn't halve to pay the absurd amount of money on Nukes, tanks, planes, jeeps none of it. We would be able to spend more on education, increase the economy. The air would be cleaner too, mostly because we would have massive war machines like that running like we do today.  We would have cleaner air, less overall conflict, and way to increase education, making the world an even better place with each generation.

Journal - On Friday we discussed Public Service Announcements. In your own words tell me what they are and what their purpose is. If you could create a PSA what would your topic be? Why?

A PSA, or public service announcement is an announcement to the public about a subject, like drunk driving  or texting while driving. They are none profit, and can be hard to get onto a tv or radio, let alone any type of other sight. In the past (like many other things) they were a lot more common. If I had to chose one thing to make a PSA about, it would be drunk driving.

Who am I presentation

8/30/13

Journal - What are your hobbies and extra curricular activities? Where do you spend your free time? Tell me three of your favorite things (movies, TV show, magazine, sport, color, etc.)

I do multiple things outside of school. From Marching Band to Martial Art's, I can be very busy person. I spend a good deal of time online, but unlike most peers, I don't go on Facebook or tweeter. I prefer gaming sites for the most part, most a mix of first-person shooter and strategy. I also like pitting my strength against real opponents to test myself. I also enjoy movies, video games, and reading, with those activities making up the remainder of my free time.

Journal - Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it."

Not in the least. Not all games on the internet are free in the first place, let alone . You have no idea what type of state they where in when said person posted that image. Even if it isn't something uber embarrassing, you should at least ask first, mostly because of copyright laws. Images are not always free, right, appropriate, or funny, no matter what could be said. So, please, be nice to others on the internet, and respect the persons wishes.

Journal - What is the importance of online safety and protecting your information? What do you do to protect yourself online? Share an experience you or someone you know has had with online safety.

Safety. In an age like today, nothing is more important than online safety. Anti-virus software, up to date security system, and lets not forget the most important thing, common sense. On sites like facebook, please wait to post pictures from vacation, never post anything on one. Keep your whits about you. On sites like roblox, or proboards, unless you know the person in real life, don't give away any information. E-mail, phone, name, none of it. Trust no one about anything involving your life. You could never know who is watching. Avoid programs that haven't been trusted. Even if they are, scan them just to be safe. You never know what type of virus could be trying to hitch a ride into your computer, and take important information. Last of all, avoid unknown sites, for who knows what type of virus could be hiding within the site.

Tell me what you know about Web 2.0. List example Web 2.0 sites. Are you on any sites that let you “post” information? What are those sites? How often do you use them? What do you post on them?

Web 2.0 is one of the most advanced and complex form of the web. Web 2.0 sites are sites that allow you you to post information. Facebook is the most popular web 2.0 site know, with a massive amount of accounts on the site. Twitter, Myspace, Youtube and many others sites are Web 2.0 sites. Being able to post information is a great way to keep up with friends in other countries or parts of the world. Despite my very short list, many, if not all sites have some elements of Web 2.0, mostly for making accounts. Other, lesser known sites are Roblox, Deviantart, Proboards, and other sites are used not just for keeping up with friends, but making new ones in a more contained environment. Proboards is used as a mostly roleplay site, making a fun and child friendly setting.

Depending on what site I am on, actuality influences what I post. On Roblox, I'm a general and a leader, working to bring the downfall of the Vaktovian Empire. On Deviantart, I post pictures made on the computer, and complement others work. On mtg-roleplay.proaboards.com I roleplay as Tenic Sharn and co. Working with other planeswalkers to save the multiverse from destruction. I get on as often as I can, but not as often as I like.

8/20/13

Journal - After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.

Some things are correct about his speech, but I don't full trust what is the motivation for him saying it. Despite that, it isn't how the world works. It's how it should work, but doesn't, nor will it. Many people with big jobs and leaders of corporations, are only out for their own gain. They only care about how much money they bring in. Some may be the exception to the rule, but in general, they cling to their money, and don't like giving it up. They act like they are better than the rest of us, and us their money to shape something around them. They use their money to make more, buying new businesses, buying out others, just because they want to be able to have no computation for their stores. They use the radio and T.V. to surround us with what they want us to buy from them. Despite that the only reason they can make money is us. The middle class, which they want to see fail, they don't pay taxes like rest of us, they sue the government so they don't pay. If one where to stop buy their proucdts, tdhen they would loss money. If the whole world did, they wouldn't have any businesses. And please, don't get me started on America's politician's.
